Portraiture from a photograph

Any interaction often also involves mutual use. If a photograph initially perceived such pictorial structures as a composition and a system of genres, so that “the first person who saw the photograph (with the exception of its creators) would take it for a picture” (V. Benyamin), then painting itself inevitably ended up at the other extreme , “Copying” any features inherent in the photograph. The possibilities that photography possessed were as varied as its use among artists. For some, it was only a document capable of accurately conveying reality, or a collection of images of memory, a phenomenon close in aesthetic views and, finally, a way of seeing.
